I posted swatches of the fantastic new Face of Australia Glossy Lip Crayons last week. Since the smooth moisturising texture is one of my favourite lip product finishes, there are quite a few similar products in my collection, so I thought I’d show you guys some comparison swatches.

First up, against other brands:

Face of Australia’s Pecan Pie is a nude your-lips-but-better colour on me, like a lighter version of Revlon Lip Butter in Pink Truffle. It’s less slick and messy than the lip butter though, and the narrower end makes it easier to apply. I prefer Pecan Pie due to its user friendliness.

Berry Brulee‘s purple-hued pink is reminiscent of Revlon Kissable lip balm stain in Smitten. It’s slightly more purple than Smitten, and doesn’t stain as strongly. The Kissable formula is also a bit drier than the Glossy Lip Crayons, and I often find that I need to add lip balm on top – Berry Brulee would be perfect for layering over Smitten!

Face of Australia’s Peach Parfait is a shimmery orange, in a similar shade to Aussie budget brand ulta3’s Irresistible lipstick. Irresistible is sheerer and doesn’t have shimmer though, so it has a much less frosty look, which I prefer. Both are similar in moisturising power, though it takes a few more swipes for Irresistible to build up.

Apple Crumble is very similar to Revlon Lip Butter in Candy Apple. Both are a lovely bright red, but Apple Crumble is easier to apply and less messy, though it gives less of a glossy finish than the lip butter.

Face of Australia also released three Sheer Gloss Lip Crayons last year in a limited edition pack. They’re back on the shelves now – here’s how they compare to the new shades:

Both Cupcake and Macaron from the old collection are more sheer than the new shades. Jam Fancy is cooler and frostier than Cupcake, which is sheerer and far less red-toned than Raspberry Coulis. Macaron is a sheer pink-red that’s in between the new shades Raspberry Coulis and Apple Crumble, though less pigmented than either.

Sundae is a slightly darker version of Pecan Pie. It’s also glossier and more moisturising than Pecan Pie, but the application is sheerer and less even.

Overall, the old Sheer Gloss Crayons are more moisturising in texture and glossier than the new Glossy Lip Crayons. Macaron and Sundae are similar enough to the new shades that you probably don’t need both. Cupcake is quite different from the new pinks though, and more wearable on me.

In case it wasn’t obvious from the original post, I think Face of Australia have really scored a home run with their new Glossy Lip Crayons. I am a convert to the wind-up pencil tip – while it feels less luxe than the usual slanted lipstick, it’s much easier to apply, especially with a soft lip product. The incredibly budget-friendly price ($4.95, now on sale at $3.96!!) doesn’t hurt either! These are now officially HG status products for me, which is unfortunate, because they are limited edition. Run out and grab them now!

Face of Australia’s new Glossy Lip Crayons were provided for editorial consideration, which did not affect my opinion. The other lip colours were purchased with my own money. For more information, see Disclosure Policy.

  1. Thank you for the comparison post! I was wondering how similar Sundae was to Pecan Pie, I already own Sundae so I think I will pass on PP. I have Berry Brulee though and I absolute adore the formula and colour. They are so lovely for the price!
